Protected trees and conservation areas

An ash with a crack, near Kirkby Lonsdale
The owner of this ash had been told by several tree surgeons that it needed to come down because of a crack in the stem. We carried out a tree risk assessment to see whether that was necessary.
We looked at the direction the tree would fall, its vitality, its current condition and the stability of the crack. We assessed the tree as retainable, provided a light crown reduction was carried out.
