Where we work
Tree surveys and tree work in Grange-over-Sands.
Tree surveys, planning tree reports and tree work for homes, schools and estates in Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel and the villages around Morecambe Bay.
The Care of Trees is based in the South Lakes, and Grange-over-Sands and the Cartmel peninsula are on our doorstep. That means short travel, quick site visits and a good knowledge of the trees and the planning rules here.
Trees in conservation areas
Tree work and planning here go through Westmorland and Furness Council. Parts of Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel are conservation areas. If a tree there has a trunk over 75mm across at 1.5m above ground, the council must be given six weeks' written notice before it is cut down or pruned. We prepare and submit the notification, and we check for Tree Preservation Orders at the same time. Many of the older trees here are protected in one way or another, so it is always worth checking before anyone picks up a saw.
What we do here
- Tree surveys for schools, churches, care homes, holiday parks and estates, so owners can show they are managing the risk from their trees
- Planning tree reports (BS5837) for extensions, new houses and conversions
- Home buyers' tree reports for properties with large trees
- Tree work: felling, sectional dismantling, crown reduction, crown lifting, pruning and hedge cutting
The ground and the trees
Many trees around the bay grow on limestone and steep, thin soil, often with mature ash, sycamore, oak and yew. Ash dieback is now a real concern across the area, so ash trees beside roads, paths and buildings need checking, and the unsafe ones may need reducing or removing.
